Axl is a 1 years old Staffy x

What does summer time mean to you and your dog?

Lazing in the sunshine with his coconut scented sunscreen, trips to the beach. We are currently trying to encourage him into walking on the beach shore with the water running through his paws, or jumping into the pool.

What are five (5) words that best describe you dog?

Playful. Loyal. Precious. Baby. Strong.

What are your favourite things to do with your dog?

He absolutely loves to go for walks and we like to try out different parks or lakesides. He loves to be chased around when he has hold of a toy. Despite originally trying to get out of any type of hug when we first got him, he now loves being snuggled. I love taking him everywhere and would if I could.

How would you describe your relationship with your dog?

He's the love of my life. My best friend. The one thing that can always, without a doubt, cheer me up when I'm down. I went away for volunteer work for a month (planned before getting him) and was homesick within a day of leaving Australia because I missed him. When I came back, I had a toy from overseas for him and he seemed hesitant to come up to me but soon after started showering me with his love, closeness and playfulness again.

What do you love most about your dog?

I love his smell. The way he rolls onto his side or back and puts a paw out as if to say to rub his belly. The way he sometimes leaves his legs up in the air when he's sleeping. I think it's adorable when he stretches which he does quite often. I love when he lays his head on me whether on my chest, shoulder or leg, anytime he wants to be close. The way he patiently sits at the door whilst waiting for me to let him inside the house. His unconditional love and the fact that he has allowed me to become the person I am today, and it hasn't even been 5 months since having him.

Tell me about your dog.

Axl is a rescue puppy. The very first time I saw him, I knew he was the one I wanted. My boyfriend at the time was unsure whether we should get him as he originally wanted a different one. I wanted him so bad but then was reconsidering looking for a puppy again when I had finished university for the year. We were third or fourth on the waiting list so we didn't really think we would get a call back though put our names down anyway. My boyfriend said he wasn't even going to tell me he received a missed call and message when he first got the notification but he did and as we were still unsure, we decided to go back to the pound, get him out of where he was kept to play with, before making a decision. As soon as I sat down on the ground, he jumped into my lap and laid down. That was it. There was no turning back. He has ever since became my best friend and my then boyfriend still absolutely adores him.

Thank you Janelle and Axl for taking part in the Dog Days of Summer!
